Quick Answer

The 2 Day Krishna Janmashtami Tour Package covers both halves of the festival — the midnight Nishita Kaal abhishek at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura on 4 September 2026, and Nandotsav at Gokul and Vrindavan on 5 September 2026. It includes one night in a hotel near the temples, all meals, AC transport, a certified Braj guide, and VIP darshan assistance at Banke Bihari Temple. This is the package most families choose, because Janmashtami and Nandotsav are two distinct celebrations and a single day can only hold one of them. Day 1 runs late into the night; Day 2 starts with Banke Bihari Mangala Aarti at dawn.

Cost & Inclusions

Krishna Janmashtami Tour Package Cost 2026 — 1 Day, 2 Day & 3 Day Price

The 1 Day Krishna Janmashtami tour package cost starts at ₹2,499 per person, the 2 Day package from ₹6,999 and the 3 Day Braj Mandal package from ₹10,499 — all inclusive of AC transport, a certified Braj guide and managed midnight darshan access.

Rates are per person on a two-sharing basis for Janmashtami 2026 (4–6 September 2026) and fall as group size increases; the 2 Day and 3 Day packages include hotel accommodation and all meals.

There are no hidden charges, no shop detours and no pressure donations — every cost is confirmed to you in writing before any payment is made.

Why This Itinerary

Why Book the 2 Day Krishna Janmashtami Tour Package?

Four honest reasons this particular itinerary works — and who it is genuinely the right choice for during Krishna Janmashtami 2026.

🎉

You get Nandotsav, not just Janmashtami

Nandotsav at Gokul falls on 5 September, the day after the midnight abhishek. A one-day itinerary physically cannot include it. This is the single biggest reason pilgrims tell us afterwards they wish they had booked two days.

🪷

The once-a-year Mangala Aarti

Banke Bihari performs Mangala Aarti on exactly one morning each year — the morning after Janmashtami — and it is the only occasion Bihariji's feet are revealed to devotees. We arrange VIP darshan and depart at 4:30 AM to make it.

🏨

A room inside the temple belt

We hold rooms from months ahead. During Janmashtami week the roads close progressively and a hotel 2 km out can mean a 40-minute crawl — proximity matters far more than star rating on this particular night.

👨‍👩‍👧

A real option for families

Janmabhoomi at midnight is dense and difficult with young children. Tell us at booking and we switch the midnight component to the ISKCON Vrindavan programme at no extra cost — organised, seated, and children can actually see.

Package Overview

What is the 2 Day Krishna Janmashtami Tour Package?

The 2 Day Krishna Janmashtami Tour Package exists because Janmashtami is not one celebration but two. The night of 4 September 2026 belongs to Mathura and the midnight abhishek at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi. The next morning, 5 September 2026, belongs to Gokul and Vrindavan and the explosion of joy that is Nandotsav — the day Nanda Baba celebrated the arrival of the child in his home. A one-day itinerary has to choose. This one does not.

Day 1 follows the Mathura Janmashtami arc: Dwarkadhish in its phool bangla, the Yamuna Aarti at Vishram Ghat, Rasleela and Chhappan Bhog, then the Nishita Kaal abhishek at midnight in the Garbha Griha. You check into a hotel close to the temple belt afterwards — pre-booked months ahead, because Janmashtami week rooms in Mathura simply do not exist by late August.

Day 2 begins early with the Banke Bihari Mangala Aarti in Vrindavan — an aarti performed only once a year, on Janmashtami morning, when the deity's feet are revealed to devotees. From there the day moves to Gokul for Nandotsav, then back through Vrindavan for ISKCON Krishna Balaram Mandir, Prem Mandir, Radha Raman and Nidhivan.

This is the package we recommend to most families and to anyone travelling into Braj specifically for Janmashtami. Two days is the minimum honest duration for the festival as it is actually celebrated.

What is the day-by-day itinerary?

Full Day
Guided Experience

Afternoon (2:00 PM): Pickup from Mathura Junction, Mathura Cantt or your hotel. Route briefing with your guide, then hotel check-in to drop luggage and freshen up before the night begins.

Late Afternoon (4:00 PM): Darshan at Dwarkadhish Temple in its Janmashtami phool bangla — a chamber of fresh flowers built anew each year. The jhankis here are the most elaborate in Mathura and the temple is still navigable at this hour.

Evening (6:00 PM): Yamuna Aarti at Vishram Ghat, the ghat where Krishna rested after defeating Kansa. Devotees float diyas down the river as the aarti is sung. Time is allowed here — this is one of the calmer, more moving hours of the day.

Evening (7:30 PM): Sattvic dinner, or phalahar if you are keeping the Janmashtami fast. Tell us at booking and it is arranged without any fuss on the day.

Night (8:30 PM): Rasleela performance and viewing of the Chhappan Bhog — the 56-item offering being assembled for the midnight puja.

Night (9:30 PM): Enter the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi complex. Being in the queue by 9:30 PM is essential — the outer gates back up badly after 10 PM. Your guide manages cloakroom, security and gate selection.

Midnight (11:56 PM – 12:42 AM): Nishita Kaal — the abhishek of the infant Krishna in the underground Garbha Griha at the exact moment of His birth, with conch shells, bells, Chhappan Bhog and the breaking of the fast.

Late Night (1:15 AM): Prasad, exit via the guide's planned route, and back to the hotel. Sleep quickly — Day 2 starts before dawn.

Full Day
Guided Experience

Pre-dawn (4:30 AM): Early departure to Vrindavan for the Banke Bihari Mangala Aarti. This aarti is performed on only one morning in the entire year — the morning after Janmashtami — and it is the one occasion when Bihariji's feet are revealed to devotees. We arrange VIP darshan access; even so, arriving before 5 AM is what makes the difference.

Morning (7:00 AM): Breakfast in Vrindavan, then darshan at Radha Raman Temple — where the Janmashtami abhishek of the self-manifested deity is performed with over a hundred substances — and Radha Damodara Temple.

Late Morning (9:30 AM): Drive to Gokul (about 45 minutes) for Nandotsav, also called Nand Mahotsav — the celebration at Nand Bhavan of the day Nanda Baba distributed gifts and sweets to all of Braj in joy at Krishna's arrival. Curd, turmeric water and sweets are thrown in celebration; wear clothes you do not mind staining. Also visit Raman Reti, the sand where the child Krishna played.

Afternoon (1:00 PM): Lunch and a rest break — Day 2 follows a very short night, and this pause is deliberate.

Afternoon (3:00 PM): ISKCON Vrindavan — Krishna Balaram Mandir, where the Janmashtami and Nandotsav programmes run at their most organised and family-friendly, with kirtan, abhishek and prasad distribution.

Evening (5:30 PM): Prem Mandir for the marble carvings depicting Krishna's life and the evening illumination show, followed by Nidhivan — the grove where Krishna is believed to perform the Raas Leela each night.

Evening (7:30 PM): Drop at Mathura Junction, Mathura Cantt or your hotel. End of tour.

Important things about 2 Day Krishna Janmashtami Tour Package

  • Janmashtami as it is actually celebrated in Braj spans two calendar days, not one. The night of 4 September 2026 is the Nishita Kaal abhishek at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura — solemn, dense, devotional, concluding around 12:45 AM. The morning of 5 September belongs to Vrindavan and the Banke Bihari Mangala Aarti, performed on this one morning alone in the entire year, when Bihariji's feet are revealed. The rest of that day belongs to Gokul and Nandotsav, the joyous celebration of Krishna's arrival at Nanda's home, with curd and turmeric water thrown through the lanes. These are not variations on the same event — they are tonally opposite halves of one story, and they are separated by a midnight. Pilgrims who compress Janmashtami into a single day invariably get the abhishek and miss Nandotsav entirely, and most tell us afterwards that they wish they had known. Two days is not an upsell here; it is the shape of the festival.

  • These two days demand genuinely different clothing and it is worth packing accordingly. For Janmashtami night at Janmabhoomi, dress traditionally and conservatively — kurta-pyjama or dhoti for men, saree or salwar-kameez with dupatta for women. Shorts, sleeveless tops and Western casual wear can get you turned away at the gate. Carry no bag, no camera and no leather; phones are not permitted inside the inner complex, so leave them in the vehicle rather than fight the cloakroom queue. For Nandotsav at Gokul the next morning, wear old clothes you are willing to have permanently stained — curd, turmeric water and coloured powder are thrown freely and enthusiastically, and this is the point rather than an inconvenience. Pack a full change of clothes in the vehicle for after Gokul. Early September in Braj is warm and humid at 30–34°C with monsoon showers possible, so carry a compact umbrella and light cotton throughout. Footwear you can remove in one movement, at every single stop. Government photo ID is required for hotel check-in and some VIP darshan queues.

  • Mathura and Vrindavan run at total occupancy through Janmashtami week. Rooms within walking distance of the temple belt are booked out by early August, and rates across Braj rise sharply for the 3–6 September window. This package includes a pre-held room in a clean, air-conditioned 3-star property inside the temple belt in Mathura or Vrindavan. Be realistic about what that means during peak festival week: rooms are modest in size, service is stretched, and check-in may be slower than usual. What we prioritise is location, cleanliness and a functioning air conditioner, in that order, because on Janmashtami the difference between a hotel 500 metres from the temple and one 2 kilometres away is not convenience but whether you reach the midnight abhishek at all — roads close progressively from the evening onward and vehicles are stopped at outer barricades. Day 2 begins at 4:30 AM for the Banke Bihari Mangala Aarti, so you will get roughly three hours of sleep. This is normal for Janmashtami and the Day 2 afternoon rest break is built in deliberately to compensate.

  • Nandotsav on 5 September 2026 is the celebration Nanda Baba held when the child Krishna was brought to his home in Gokul, and Braj has re-enacted it for centuries. At Nand Bhavan in Gokul the day begins with abhishek and kirtan, then moves outdoors as devotees throw curd, turmeric water, coloured powder and sweets in unrestrained celebration — a tradition often described as the origin of the dahi-handi observed elsewhere in India. Sweets, small coins and gifts are distributed in imitation of Nanda's gift-giving. Nearby, Raman Reti is the stretch of soft sand where the infant Krishna is believed to have played and crawled, and pilgrims roll in the sand as an act of devotion. The atmosphere is loud, physical and overwhelmingly joyful, and it is the exact tonal opposite of the previous midnight at Janmabhoomi. Go in with the right expectation: this is not a darshan queue but a village festival that you are welcome to join. Keep your phone in a sealed pouch or leave it in the vehicle, wear clothes you will discard, and let it happen.

  • This package involves a very late night, a pre-dawn start and two days of dense crowds in humid early-September weather. Prepare for it in the week before travel — sleep well, stay hydrated and do not arrive already exhausted from an overnight train. Drink 3 to 4 litres of water daily and carry ORS sachets; the combination of fasting, heat and crowd density is what causes most of the fainting we see at Janmabhoomi each year. If you are fasting, sit out the queue rather than push through dizziness, and tell your guide immediately. Seniors are well supported — vehicles drop as close to the barricades as police permit, the guide sets a slow pace through queues, and rest breaks are built into both days — but anyone with a serious cardiac condition, severe mobility limitation or advanced respiratory illness should reconsider the midnight Janmabhoomi component specifically and take the calmer ISKCON programme instead. Carry all personal medication on your person, not in luggage. Agree a fixed meeting point with your group before entering any temple complex and keep children physically held rather than followed. Our guides carry an emergency contact list and know the location of the temporary medical camps set up across Mathura for the festival.

"We came from Hyderabad specifically for Janmashtami and the two-day format was the right decision. Midnight at Janmabhoomi was overwhelming in the best way, and Nandotsav at Gokul the next day was pure joy — completely different mood. Do not try to do this in one day."

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to common questions about this tour package, so you can plan your Mathura–Vrindavan yatra with confidence.

1

What is Nandotsav and why does it need a second day?

Nandotsav, or Nand Mahotsav, is celebrated the day after Janmashtami — Saturday, 5 September 2026 — at Gokul and Nandgaon. It marks the day Nanda Baba celebrated Krishna's arrival by distributing gifts and sweets across Braj. Where Janmashtami night is solemn and devotional, Nandotsav is loud, joyful and physical, with curd, turmeric water and sweets thrown in celebration. They are genuinely different experiences and both happen after midnight on separate days, which is why a one-day package cannot hold both.

2

What is special about the Banke Bihari Mangala Aarti on Janmashtami?

Banke Bihari Temple performs Mangala Aarti on only one morning each year — the morning after Janmashtami. It is the single occasion on which Bihariji's feet are revealed to devotees, and Vrindavan fills for it. We arrange VIP darshan assistance and depart at 4:30 AM, because arriving before 5 AM matters more than any access arrangement on this particular morning.

3

Which is better for families with children — Janmabhoomi or ISKCON?

For the midnight programme with young children, ISKCON Vrindavan's Krishna Balaram Mandir is considerably more manageable — organised queues, seating, clear announcements and space to move. Janmabhoomi at midnight is intense and dense. If your group includes children under eight, tell us at booking and we will switch the Day 1 midnight component to ISKCON at no extra cost.

4

Is the hotel actually near the temples during Janmashtami?

Yes. We hold rooms within the Mathura or Vrindavan temple belt and book them months ahead, because by late August every usable room in Braj is gone. Proximity matters more than star rating on Janmashtami — a 2 km hotel can mean a 40-minute crawl when the roads close. Rooms are clean and air-conditioned, though modest in size during peak festival week.

5

Can I book this package for a group or extended family?

Yes, and most of our Janmashtami bookings are family groups of six to twenty. Vehicles are matched to group size — sedan, Innova or Tempo Traveller — and larger groups get a second guide so nobody is lost in the Janmabhoomi crowd. Give us your group size at enquiry and we will structure the queue plan around it.

6

What if I arrive on 3 September or want to stay past 5 September?

Both are easy to accommodate. Janmashtami week in Braj runs several days either side, with Rasleela, jhankis and temple decorations throughout. Extra nights, airport or station transfers, and a Govardhan Parikrama add-on can all be attached to this package — or look at the 3 Day package, which builds those in properly.
